Macro Informative Youth Agency is a registered Non-Profit Organization established by Mr Molefi Nyofane who was born and bred in QwaQwa, East of the Free State Province South Africa. Raised a by single mother, from an RDP government house in the village called Tebang. Having being raised in poverty, he dedicated his high school life in studying and later received an exception with distinctions to enrol in an institution of higher learning. Due to lack of Information and digital divide existing in most rural township areas, he found himself having not applied for any tertiary institution and without funding to further his studies. After looking for placements and funding in almost 5 institutions of higher learning, he was eventual afforded an opportunity to enrol at the University of Johannesburg in 2006. In his second year of undergraduate studies he joined forces with other friends (LeratoMoatlhodi and Ernest Mofokeng) to start a project that can help alleviate lack of information accessibility and it was named MOVING FORWARD AND UPWARD (MFU), the project aimed at assisting Grade 12 learners from rural communities to apply for bursaries and access tertiary institution. In 2009, he met up with his old high school friend, Pule Maloleka, whom they later formalized the project into a nonprofit organization called Macro-Informative Youth Agency, eminently known as MIYA. The name meant effectively and efficiently providing a large amount of useful information and opportunities to rural community’s youth for their betterment. Although all his friends left to pursue their careers, he stayed with the vision and in 2012 registered the NPO baring the same name. He was joined by incredible passionate youth activists by the names of JossLtseli, MatshedisoMofokeng, MatlalaTwal and KeneuweSefako who dedicated their youth years in making MIYA what it is today: An organisation dedicated to bridging the gap between rural communities, institutions of higher learning and world of work. It has reached more than 10 000 youth of which 60% of them have obtained various qualifications and in South African Institutions of Higher learning and abroad institution in countries like China, Cuba and Russia.
The service offerings and programmes of the organizations expanded far beyond just career guidance and access to tertiary. MIYA now offers computer literacy sessions, youth mentoring and other development programmes such as leadership development, and tutoring, financial literacy, and work readiness skills programme geared to improve rural communities’ pupils and youth.
Molefi’s goal is to skill and empower youth from impoverished and disadvantaged backgrounds to become productive members of society with an emphasis on excellence in service delivery and a commitment to nation building.
